(July 15, 2015-Benton Harbor, MI) Cornerstone Alliance and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) announced today Shepherd Caster Corporation is adding a new distribution center in St. Joseph Charter Township. As part of the expansion project, Colson Group, Inc. the parent company is investing more than $1.5 million and creating 50 new jobs for the 110,000 square foot distribution center. Colson Group, Inc. is the largest manufacturer and marketer of caster and wheel products in the world.

Cornerstone Alliance Chief Operating Officer and VP, Business Development Greg Vaughn said, “The Cornerstone Alliance Business Development team has been working with Shepherd Caster management since October, 2014 on the expansion project. The expansion of Shepherd Caster Corporation and creation of 50 new jobs and the sizeable investment reflects the confidence the company has in our community. ”

The St. Joseph Charter Township location was chosen over competing domestic and foreign locations.

John Janick, the economic development organization’s board chair added, “This project is an excellent example of how Cornerstone Alliance’s efforts help bring economic growth to Berrien County. Cornerstone Alliance collaborated with MEDC, Michigan Works and St. Joseph Charter Township to help make the expansion a reality.”

MEDC awarded Shepherd Caster Corporation a $350,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant incentive.

The new distribution center will increase efficiencies in the global distribution processes, minimizing transportation costs and lead time. Colson Group, Inc. owns 23 plants in 11 countries. The distribution center is scheduled to be operational by September, 2015.
