BENTON HARBOR, Mich. - In conjunction with National Small Business Week, the Women's Business Center at Cornerstone Alliance will host its second annual "Small Business Day" event on May 1, 2019 at the Inn at Harbor Shores in St. Joseph. Individuals looking to start, grow, or expand a business in Berrien, Van Buren, or Cass County, are encouraged to attend the day-long educational event.

With over 20 break-out sessions to choose from, participants will have the opportunity to learn from subject-matter experts on a wide array of topics. Topics will be pertinent to aspiring entrepreneurs, and young and growing businesses alike, and will include:

  • Choosing the Right Location for Your Business
  • Crowd Funding
  • State Tax Basics and Compliance
  • Using Social Media to Market Your Business
  • E-Commerce Tools for Businesses
  • The Effects of the Michigan Marijuana Laws on Employers

  • Buy/Sell Agreements & Business Valuations

"Small businesses are the cornerstone of every community," said Stephanie Sims, Director of Entrepreneurship and Placemaking at Cornerstone Alliance. "Since 2004, the Women's Business Center at Cornerstone Alliance has focused on ensuring that the entrepreneurial community in Michigan's Great Southwest has the resources it needs to be successful. Our Small Business Day event is a unique opportunity that provides entrepreneurs with a lot of useful information, under one roof, at an affordable price."

"Small Business Day 2019" will take place on May 1, 2019 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Inn at Harbor Shores, 800 Whitwam Drive, St. Joseph. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. The Early-Bird fee of $65 is available until March 15. Regular registration is $75. Registration will end on April 12. Advanced registration is required.
